Adults (21-54)

Your dentist is your biggest ally when it comes to good oral health. Regular dental visits keep your gums and teeth strong and give your dentist a chance to learn about your overall health.

As we get older, taking care of our health becomes more and more important. Good oral health can prevent tooth loss, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and even respiratory illnesses. If you have any concerns about your teeth, schedule an appointment to see your dentist right away. Medi‑Cal will pay up to $1,800 in a year for covered dental services. You may qualify for no yearly limit if you are pregnant. Dental services may go over the $1,800 limit if shown to be medically needed. Please visit “About the Medi‑Cal Dental Program” to find out more. The Medi‑Cal Dental Program provides the following free or low-cost services for adults:

  • Dental exams (every 12 months)
  • X-rays
  • Teeth cleaning (every 12 months)
  • Scaling and root planing
  • Fluoride varnish (every 12 months)
  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Root canals
  • Partial and full dentures
  • Denture relines
  • Tooth removal
  • Emergency services
  • Sedation (if medically necessary)

Your mouth changes as you age, but there is plenty you can do to keep it in great shape, such as:

  • Brush and floss your teeth twice a day
  • Do not smoke or chew tobacco, which stains your teeth, gives you bad breath and can cause cancer
  • Use your Medi-Cal dental benefits and see a dentist every 12 months for regular check-ups and cleanings
